                       Medical Coding is the process of translating diagnoses, procedures, services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes, which are then used to create a patient’s medical record. Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures.

                         International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes are a set of designations used by healthcare staff to communicate diseases, symptoms, abnormal findings, and other elements of a patient's diagnosis in a way that is universally accepted by those in the medical and insurance fields. For instance, ICD code, H40.9 denotes Glaucoma.  


                         Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that cause damage to the optic nerve, which can lead to vision loss and blindness. It is caused by abnormally high pressure in the eye, which can be caused by a variety of factors, including age, genetics, and certain medical conditions. Treatment for glaucoma typically involves the use of prescription eye drops, medications, laser surgeries, and in some cases, surgical procedures.
